BREAKING BAD BEHAVIOR

Russ Cullingworth, MBA
Certified Social and Emotional Intelligence Coach

Breaking Bad Behavior is intended to help you with specific responses
to problematic behavior at home, at work or at school.

Our approach is that it's very difficult (sometimes impossible) to change the behavior of others.
You can only change your response to how they behave.  Let's start with that.

Before we even start to try to deal with bad behaviors in others, we need to first equip ourselves with some necessary items to aid us on our quest.  This is where the BBB Toolkit comes in - the basic necessities for social and emotional intelligence (SEI).

  1. Mirror, slightly cracked or broken - first, some self-analysis

  2. Pair of binoculars - careful observation

  3. Headphones or earphones - listening without distraction

  4. Plastic question mark - ask "the right" questions

  5. Glass heart - The enormous power of empathy

  6. Calculator - calculating cost vs benefit

  7. Watch - taking time and learning patience

  8. Chain - the importance of connection

  9. Fragile glass ornament - earning trust

  10. Door handle - permission to influence

“My problem is I’m not a sit-still kind of guy -

I don’t like sitting and watching a learning video for more than 5 minutes!

I'm challenging the norms on how adults learn because research shows that a “sit still and listen to teacher” is not the best way - it’s certainly not fun or convenient!

It’s proven that we can learn better by listening to audio stories, scenarios and other media that make us use our imagination, while we can still do other things like driving or cooking or walking the dog. I like to listen while I tinker and make stuff in my garage, or soak in the hot-tub.

We create learning that helps people to understand how to use what they learn in their everyday work.”
